Built on Experience Since 1993
FDG Civil is a South Australian civil construction business built on more than three decades of hands-on industry experience.
The FDG Civil story begins with Director David Gatto, whose introduction to construction started long before the business carried his name.
After leaving school in 1983, David began working alongside his father, a builder, in 1984. It was here that he learned the industry from the ground up — working on machinery, developing his skills as an operator and gaining practical experience across residential construction.
Much of this early work involved Housing Commission projects, together with residential and private construction undertaken by his father's building business. Working directly on site gave David an understanding of not only how to operate machinery, but how civil works fit into the wider construction process.
It was an education built through experience.
Establishing FDG Civil
In 1993, David took that experience and established his own civil contracting business.
For almost three decades, the business predominantly serviced South Australia's residential construction industry, building a reputation around practical experience, reliability and quality workmanship.
In 2020, FDG Civil expanded its capabilities further into the commercial construction sector, bringing the same hands-on approach developed over decades of residential construction to larger and more complex projects.
Today, FDG Civil works across commercial, industrial, residential and private construction, delivering civil and external works throughout Adelaide and South Australia.
Still Hands-On
More than 30 years after establishing the business, David remains actively involved in its day-to-day operations. As Director, he oversees a team of five and maintains a hands-on role across projects, from understanding the scope and planning the works through to overseeing delivery on site.
For our clients, that means dealing with a business where experience and accountability remain close to every project.Our size allows us to be responsive and flexible while providing the capability to undertake a diverse range of civil and external works.
